Keystone Kidspace, a collaborative community hub where children ages 6-18 can “play with purpose,” selected the historic York Armory to house their facility. The community leaders behind Keystone Kidspace engaged Site Design Concepts to plan, design, and permit the adaptive reuse Project that involved converting an over 100 year old PA National Guard Armory into a collaborative play space. The design involved an approximately 1,200 sf building addition to connect the two (2) existing brick buildings located on the Site.

The Site’s design involved coordination with the City of York for the North George Street Improvement Project, York County Rail Trail Extension Project, PA Historical and Museum Commission, and the US Army Corps. Of Engineers to ensure the Keystone Kidspace Project was integrated properly and seamlessly with the other projects surrounding the Site.

The Project required a special exception for the proposed use in the Open Space zoning district. SDC had to also coordinate the title research, boundary survey, and new parcel deed to correct the erroneous deed and title provided by the Commonwealth.
