SDC worked with the Spanish American Civic Association (SACA) to enhance the Southeast Neighborhood of Lancaster City through physical improvements and build upon the existing planning and improvements undertaken on Pershing Street. SACA determined that the next area of improvement was the primary community space on Pershing Street and undertook a study to understand its potential.

We worked with SACA to examine the existing community center, study pedestrian circulation through the site, and analyze the existing conditions to plan for a new civic space that better serves the needs of the community. SACA provided community input gathered through its own outreach portals and relied on our expertise in pedestrian circulation and public space to develop a long-term plan for the community center. We created a conceptual diagram illustrating programmatic relationships between proposed design elements and provided imagery to illustrate the improvements. The diagram was then utilized to apply for state funding for the design and construction of the improvements.
