Toyota of York’s expansion included combining their existing three (3) parcel tract into one (1) parcel, site design and permitting for the demolition of two (2) existing buildings and the construction of a new two-story, 17,000 s.f. footprint auto dealership, as well as reconfigured access drives and vehicle display / parking areas. The Site’s redevelopment not only allows Toyota of York to replace two (2) over 50-year old structures that no longer fit the needs of the dealership, but also to significantly increase their lot’s usable space allowing Toyota of York to accommodate additional customer traffic and utilize new vehicle display areas.
The Site’s soils were physically challenging as the soils mainly consisted of fill material from the construction of State Route 30 in the 1960’s. The fill material-laden soils required additional testing and soils analysis to ensure the structural integrity of the improvements.
However, the Project’s major challenge was ensuring the dealership could remain operational during construction. SDC designed the construction sequence to minimize interruptions in the day to day operations.
