The York County History Center engaged SDC to design and permit their new headquarters and museum in the former Met-Ed building located in the City of York. The former steam heat generating plant will be redeveloped with a 10,000 sf building addition that will connect two (2) existing buildings, curbing, sidewalks, landscaping / hardscape, upgraded parking areas, site grading, and stormwater management facilities.

The Project is impacted by an active railroad track spur along the site’s western boundary. SDC coordinated upgrades to this crossing with York Rail and designed improvements to minimize impacts to the existing railroad, which saved the Project time and money.

The newly created space consolidates two larger museums into one core exhibit space as well as providing suitable space for borrowed exhibits. The History Center describes the project as a “major cultural keystone to the York community.”
