The CAD Designer role supports the civil site design team with CAD drafting, site plan preparation, and basic design calculations under direct supervision. Duties & Responsibilities

1. Perform CAD drafting tasks including plan sheet layout, linework, annotations, and drawing formatting under direct supervision.
2. Assist with preparation of site plans, grading plans, utility exhibits, and construction details.
3. Compile and organize project data including topographic surveys, boundary plats, and GIS information.
4. Perform basic design calculations such as slope checking, setback verification, and simple area takeoffs.
5. Incorporate redline corrections and review comments into drawings promptly and accurately.
6. Maintain organized and properly labeled project drawing files and directories.
7. Learn and apply firm CAD standards, drawing templates, and naming conventions.
8. Support senior designers and PMs during site visits and field data collection.
9. Assist with document assembly, plotting, and plan set production.
10. Actively engage in training, mentorship sessions, and professional development opportunities provided by the firm.
11. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting, Architecture, or related field
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; and Civil3D
• Foundational understanding of civil engineering concepts from coursework or prior experience.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn firm standards and workflows.
• Ability to follow direction, receive feedback constructively, and work effectively within a team.

Civil Engineer and Land Development Duties & Responsibilities
• Manage multiple civil engineering projects simultaneously from initiation through construction administration and closeout.
• Develop project scopes, fee proposals, schedules, and budgets; monitor and control project financials throughout.
• Coordinate permitting with PennDOT, DEP, local municipalities, and other review agencies.
• Oversee preparation of construction documents, specifications, and bid packages.
• Conduct construction observation and respond to RFIs, submittals, and field conditions as needed.
• Ensure all deliverables meet applicable codes, standards (e.g., PennDOT, Act 167, E&S), and firm quality benchmarks.
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Lancaster office, including workflow management, staffing utilization, and resource planning.
• Maintain awareness of project backlog and proactively manage capacity across the project team.
• Provide and participate in business development efforts, including proposal preparation, networking, and overall project development.
• Supervise and mentor a team of 4 to 8 engineers, landscape architects, designers, and technicians at various career stages.
• Assign work, provide technical guidance, and review deliverables for quality and completeness.
• Participate in hiring decisions, performance reviews, and professional development planning for direct reports.
• Foster a collaborative, accountable, and growth-oriented team culture consistent with the firm’s values.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, maintaining strong relationships through responsive communication and quality outcomes.
• Lead client meetings, project kick-offs, and progress updates.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering/Landscape Architecture/Land Surveying or another closely related field from an ABET-accredited program.
• Licensed Professional in Pennsylvania, or ability to obtain PA licensure within 12 months of hire.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive land development experience, with at least 2 years in a project management capacity.
• Demonstrated experience with site development, land development, stormwater management, and/or municipal infrastructure projects in Pennsylvania.
• Working knowledge of PA DEP NPDES permitting, Act 167 stormwater, and PennDOT highway occupancy processes.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D; familiarity with HydroCAD, PennDOT design standards, and related tools.
• Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

We are searching for a motivated individual to join our growing team of civil/site professionals as we design the communities in which we live, work, and play. As a Project Manager, you will use your land development experience, design knowledge, and skills to create and manage innovative projects through the preparation of site layout, grading, utility and landscape plans, as well as stormwater management, soil erosion and sediment control, and infrastructure designs. You’ll also be responsible for obtaining local, state, and federal approvals and permits for various projects. Experience with PADEP, PennDOT, and municipal ordinance requirements/approvals is required. Our ideal person has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or landscape architecture and is a licensed professional engineer or professional landscape architect in Pennsylvania at a minimum.
