Susquehanna Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery engaged SDC to transform a vacant lot into their new medical office building. The major challenge on this project was the property’s small size. The constrained site had to include the medical office building, access drives, curbing, sidewalks, associated parking areas, landscaping, as well as required stormwater controls.
Another site challenge included the required addition of sidewalks along three frontages that previously drained directly to the streets. To make up for this, SDC designed a swale to divert runoff from the adjacent property through an underground chamber system. The site also features a bioretention basin that is fed by runoff from impervious areas and a river rock island with curb cuts which allows runoff to infiltrate into a subsurface basin. An inlet within the center of the gravel island was designed to direct runoff from more powerful storms into the subsurface system.
